Christian Pathfinders from all over the world gathered in Denmark

Stevninghus/Denmark | 02.08.2006 | ANR/APD | International

Nearly 3.000 Christian pathfinders came together for the Camporee 2006, organised by Trans-European region of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, in Stevninghus in the southern part of Denmark. The participants were from 26 countries, primarily from northern and eastern Europe, along with representatives from more distant nations such as Kuwait, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

The highlights of the Pathfinder Camporee included 18 young people giving their lives to the Lord in a very moving youth baptismal service. 30,000 Danish Kroner (£2,750.00) were collected to help start Christian Pathfinder clubs in Egypt and which will be used to translate material into Arabic. In addition, the Camporee Market Day raised a record amount of 80,000 Danish Kroner (£7,330.00) which will go towards launching community youth projects in Greenland.

A potential record was set when Pathfinders were treated to over 50 metres of cake prepared by members of the Seventh-day Adventist churches across Denmark. An application has been submitted to the Guiness Book of Records for admittance as a world record. The local press got hold of this story and featured a report on the front of their weekly newspaper.

Peter Bo Jensen, who is Pathfinder Director of the Adventist church in Denmark and responsible for most of the local planning, said "we have a lot of activities and a rather exciting programme that helps to bond people from all the different cultures at the Camporee."

Apart from a full programme for the ten to fifteen-year-olds, for the first time distinct Rover age group (16-19) projects were offered, including a night hike and an Internet café, which were well received.

Paul Tompkins, Youth Director for the Seventh-day Adventist Church at the Trans-European Division, commented, "the Camporee helps act as a memory event for our Pathfinders, a meeting place for those both within and outside our division and a significant spiritual opportunity for all those present to come closer to God."
