Adventist Youth March in Central London

London/UK, | 30.05.2007 | APD | International

The banging of drums and the sounds of some 700 marching Pathfinders and young people from Adventist churches around Southern England brought Central London to a standstill on Saturday, May 19.

Spectators lined the streets and burst into spontaneous applause at the sight of the London Youth Federation's "Put It Down" anti-gun crime sign. Adventist youth flowed past Temple Place, Downing Street, Parliament Square and Big Ben on route to the majestic 2,300-seater Westminster Central Hall, for the formal celebrations that marked the 100 Years Jubilee of Youth ministry department in the world-wide protestant church.

Matt Stone, Scotland Yard Police organiser in charge of special events in Central London told the organisers, "In my whole police career and providing support for demonstrations I have never watched such a positive event." He added, "It was a true pleasure to assist today. Please come again!"

Youth leaders say the procession is probably the biggest one ever conducted by Adventist Youth in the United Kingdom.
